Our Mission Statement: We are God’s people, gathered for worship, study and fellowship, and dedicated to Christ’s ministry of outreaching love.
Since 1907, God has been working through us. First, as Dodson Avenue Methodist Episcopal Church South, then as Dodson Avenue Methodist Church, followed by Goddard Memorial Methodist Church, and now, as Goddard United Methodist Church. It’s been a long road from the 44 charter members to nearly 650 families in 2003. A white frame building replaced the winterized grape arbor in 1908 and served the congregation for over twenty years. Its concrete cornerstone is embedded in the wall of the new narthex on the west side of the sanctuary. In 1930, the members took a big step in faith when they built the present sanctuary including the tower and the stained glass windows. Paying for so many bricks and windows, along with coping with the Great Depression, was not easy. We know that “God was Good – All the Time” to the members of Goddard even then.
We took another big step in 1996, with the construction of offices, classrooms, a multipurpose room and kitchen. We believe God will continue to work through us and that He has many plans for His ministries. Our future is bright and we know that with the Holy Spirit empowering us, God will continue to work through Goddard to meet the needs of people within and outside our walls.
One of our goals is to have all our members in ministry. Each member can pray or invite or receive or teach or serve in some capacity in the church and in the community. It is important for all of us – past, present and future leaders and followers – to join together to continue the work of the church. Let us pray and work together as God’s people in Goddard United Methodist Church.
