Presently Mike Mankin leads the class with several others helping out. Carol McAlister and Mike Lyons fill in at various times. We study a wide variety of topics relating to our faith journey. We have been viewing The Chosen and will start again this fall with season 5. We range in age from young adults to older adults and would happy to have new members in our class. Gathering Disciples
Location: Main Building/Main Hallway
Facilitator: Betty Morkemo
Sunday School class meets at 9:50 in the Gathering Disciples Room. It began around 2008 when Alice Fincher saw the need for a class to include those who attended the contemporary service called “The Gathering”. All the other Sunday School classes met while we were in worship. So, Alice began asking around and soon found several people interested in a new class for Gathering members. We started meeting in what is now the Susan C. King classroom, then shared the room with another class before moving to Young Hall. Three other classes also met in Young Hall at the time, and we enjoyed having “neighbors” to greet each week and occasionally share a meal. Some of those classes dissolved, and we were blessed to have some who remained join us. Over the years we have had members who have passed away and others who have moved, but we have remained determined to carry on and have added to our membership. Current members are Betty Morkemo, Shirley Anderson, Matthew & Star Duggan, Carolyn Stephens, Rick & Betty Bodine, Don & Jeannie Holland, and Barbara Rumage. With Jesus as our guiding light, we study a variety of materials in hopes of drawing closer to God and living out His purpose for each of us. We value the thoughts and opinions of all our members, and we learn from each other in our discussions. Our mission is to love the Lord and to serve others wherever we can. We use our funds to contribute to Goddard Pantry, VBS, UMCOR, and Heifer Project, among others. We are a welcoming group, and anyone interested in finding a Sunday School class is welcome to join us.

Susan C. King
Location: Classroom (across from Parlor)
Facilitator: Sherry Stockton
Sunday School Class meets at 9:50 in the classroom across from the parlor. Sherry Stockton is the teacher/facilitator. At this time there are six members of the class. The class uses the Genesis to Revelation Series and does a verse by verse study of the Bible using different translations, with lively discussions on how the Bible relates to us today. We have finished studying the Old Testament of the Bible. Before starting the New Testament, we have decided to study the Bible Apocrypha book by book. Some of the books of the Apocrypha pertain to the intertestamental period of the Bible. This covers the history of the Jewish people between the Old and New Testaments. There is a warm, friendly atmosphere in the class. The class helps with projects that Goddard UMC sponsors, such as providing a “children’s bag for each child who comes to the pantry with their parents. We also donate money to various projects of the church. We celebrate class birthdays monthly with cake and cards. If you are looking for an in-depth study of the Bible, you are always invited to join us.
