Music Ministry

Chancel Choir

The Goddard Chancel Choir is a non-auditioned group of people who sing weekly for Goddard's worship service.  The choir sings two special anthems weekly, provides service music such as the Call to Worship and Prayer Responses, and provides leadership for the congregational hymns.  The choir rehearses on Wednesday evenings from 6:30 p.m. - 8:00 p.m.  in the choir room.

Pipe Organ

Picture
Goddard is blessed to have a 24 rank Nichols/Simpson pipe organ in the sanctuary.  The organ provides the majority of the accompaniment for the worship service music.  Our organist, George A. Mann, also plays a Prelude and Postlude each week to begin and end the worship experience.  The organ pipes, approximately 1,450, are housed mostly inside the church bell tower.  This feature is unique to only a few organs in the world.
The original 10 rank Mohler pipe organ was installed when the sanctuary was built in 1931.  In 1993 the current Nichols/Simpson pipe organ was installed in 20 ranks, using pieces, still in operation today, of the original Mohler pipe organ.  In later years the organ was expanded with the addition of 4 ranks bringing it to it's current total of 24.

Handbell Choir

The Goddard Handbell Choir is a seasonal group that plays handbells for special worship music.  Goddard is blessed to have a complete 5 octave set of Schulmerich handbells.  The handbell choir enjoys playing for special seasons including Thanksgiving, Christmas, and Easter.  Goddard is also blessed to have a 4 octave set of Malmark tone chimes.  These chimes are a great addition to the handbells and have a unique tone that complements the handbell sound beautifully.  They are also great practice instruments for children and other beginners because of their indestructible quality.
